FLY FISHING EVENT - NEW NANOTECHNOLOGY SHOWCASED IN IDYLLIC SETTING
Underley Estate will be showcasing the very latest in nanotechnology carbon fibre rods at an event in the idyllic Lune Valley, Cumbria on Sunday May 15.
Fly fishers attending will have the chance to try out the exciting new fishing technology under expert guidance from world renowned casting gurus while enjoying the peace and tranquillity of this stunning setting.
“It’s an opportunity to try out these new rods and lines under professional tutorship,” explains event organiser Geoff Robinson of Stephen J Fawcett Fishing Tackle, Lancaster. “These rods are completely new to the market. They are 40pc stronger and 30pc lighter than any we’ve had before. It’s very exciting.”
Equipment is not on sale at the event so there’s no pressure to buy. It’s informal and friendly with plenty of stalls, information and a small marquee providing shelter for nibbles and refreshments.
Professional casting demonstrations and lessons will take place on the Underley Park Bridge which offers breathtaking views over the stunning Underley Estate. Casting gurus include the world famous Ian Gorden, Andy Murray, Bob White, Charles Jardine and Jim Fearn.
The new carbon fibre technology includes NRX rods from Loomis and the Sintrix range from Hardy’s. There will also be top end clothing, reels and lines from major manufacturers including Simms, Daiwa, ZTey and Bruce & Waller.
“It’s very much an informal, relaxed gathering where people can ask questions,” adds Geoff. “Some of these rods can cost up to £1,500 and people want to try their hands at casting on the river before thinking about changing. It’s something you simply can’t do in a shop! Others just come to have a lovely meander down the river and try their hands at rods they’ve only ever read about. It’s a superb day out for lovers of fly fishing.”
This event is one of many planned by Underley Estate, which is owned by the Pease family.
The estate operates a hugely successful holiday cottage business which offers a diverse range of activities for guests including fishing, golf, wildfowling, deer stalking, walking and clay pigeon shooting.
The existing six holiday cottages were added to following an extensive £250,000 renovation project to Underley Grange, which has created an impressive 9-bedroomed holiday home and event/conference venue.
Development work to transform former workshop buildings into Underley Business Centre –a 4300sq ft of luxurious and flexible office space – is also well underway.
Set in the heart of the distinctive Cumbrian Dales landscape, Underley is home to Ruskin’s View – the scene which inspired one of J M Turner’s most famous paintings and was described by the critic as ‘one of the loveliest scenes of England.’
“This is the second year we have run this event at Underley Estate and we are honoured to be invited back to host in such a stunning setting,” says Geoff. “It makes for a very interesting and memorable day.”
The event is free and there are still a few places left for interested fly fishers wishing to attend. Please contact Stephen J Fawcett Gunsmiths and Fishing Tackle on 01524 272669 for further information as admission must be booked in advance.
